Ruben Hakhverdyan

Ruben Hakhverdyan is an Armenian singer-songwriter, composer, and poet born on December 3, 1950, in Yerevan. He graduated from Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, but became widely known through music rather than his technical profession. Beginning in the 1970s, he developed a distinct author-performer style built around his own lyrics and melodies. His songs often focus on Yerevan, everyday urban life, personal reflection, and social observation. Among the works most closely associated with his name are “Im Pokrik Navak,” “Yerevani Sirun Aghjik,” and “Lusine,” which became well known to Armenian listeners. Hakhverdyan also appeared in the film “The Tango of Our Childhood” (“Mer mankutyan tango”). He is regarded as one of the notable figures of Armenian bard and author-song culture, and for many years he has given concerts in Armenia as well as for Armenian communities abroad.
